INTRODUCTION TO BAMBOO
Bamboo is just grass, but it varies in height from dwarf, one foot (30 cm) plants to giant timber bamboos that can grow to over 100 feet (30 m). It grows in many different climates, from jungles to high on mountainsides. Bamboos are further classified by the types of roots they have. Some, called runners, spread exuberantly, and others are classified as clumpers, which slowly expand from the original planting. There are also varieties of root systems that are a mixture of these types. Generally, the tropical bamboos tend to be clumpers and the temperate bamboos tend to be runners.
Bamboo has been used for centuries in other parts of the world for creating utilitarian objects and architectural structures. Our culture, being so new by comparison, is just starting to be captivated by bamboo. People first attracted to bamboo as an art material and now find their life completely surrounded by bamboo as an art material and a plant.
Bamboo is both decorative and useful. In many parts of the world it is food, fodder, the primary construction material and is used for making great variety of useful objects from kitchen tools, to paper to dinnerware.

RECOMMENDATION AND LOOKING AT THE FUTURE
v The main purpose of the workshop was to train the artisans to learn new products by using their age old skills to develop fresh innovations in products created with bamboo.
v bamboo craft has a limited market, these workshops provide th artisans an opportunity to showcase their talents by giving them new ideas which are consumer friendly and easily saleable.
v There is a need for artisans to open up to the latest trends that they are unaware of, and provide them a designers perspective so as to create products that are new and breathtaking. The artisans need to realise their skills can create beautiful products and they need to be motivated and encouraged to develop their creativity.
v There is a need of more up gradation and training programmes so that their skills can be improved and creativity blossoms. These workshops should further encourage more artisans and encourage them to learn new designs so that they are exposed to new ways of thinking.
v The society should take steps in conducting training as well as design workshop and also promoting trading of the products. The cluster should be supported and given opportunities to participate in craft shows and exhibitions in reviving the ancient craft in modern way.
v The DCH team has taken a fresh perspective to revive the age old bamboo craft.Further, it should work towards creating market centers for the products and provide the artisans more oppurtunities and platforms.
v Latest technology should be introduced by providing power tools that can be used in the bamboo crafts, which can help to promote this sector and enable its entry into the international market.
